Dr. James Yoonil Auh

Adjunct Faculty

Dr. James Yoonil Auh is a Juilliard-trained violinist, composer, educator, and writer whose work bridges artistry, ethics, and education across cultures. Discovered in Korea by the late Isaac Stern, he was introduced to the legendary Dorothy DeLay at the tender age of eleven. Under her mentorship, he studied at The Juilliard School for fourteen years, making his Carnegie Main Hall debut in 1978 and appearing at Avery Fisher Hall the following year.

After a distinguished performance career, Dr. Auh devoted himself to teaching and educational leadership. He has served as Vice President and Dean at major universities in both the United States and Korea, designing programs that integrate music, technology, and social innovation. His leadership extends into international development and cultural diplomacy, where he has directed and advised major educational and community initiatives with KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency), SK Hynix, and the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) in Costa Rica, Panama, Paraguay, and Tanzania, as well as humanitarian music projects in Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia.

He is the founder of Harmony Nation Music Education and the Virtual Music Conservatory (VMC) for Myanmar, initiatives that bring inclusive and trauma-informed music education to communities affected by inequality and crisis.

As a writer and thinker, Dr. Auh explores how music serves as a language of empathy and renewal in fractured societies. His interdisciplinary work bridges pedagogy, philosophy, and design, reimagining the artist as a civic presence and the teacher as a builder of humane futures. He views music education as a practice of social healing and moral imagination. He currently serves as adjunct faculty in the Master of Arts in Community Music program at 好色先生TV.
